Virtual Reality Electric Vehicle Battery Change Training Simulation

My team worked with Vancouver Community College to build this training simulator for automotive mechanic students.

The goal - to assist students in developing competance in the skills before ever having to attempt the real thing. Saving time, improving safety (1 tonne and 400V battery), and gaining familiarity and confidence.

Specific challenges we had to overcome: User Experience and diagetic and spatial UI. Designing to avoid potential VR sickness. Through regular user testing we managed to isolate these problems and resolve them to positive user feedback

Our client was the Dean of Trades at VCC and we reported weekly to him. As project manager I coordinated the team, and my previous experience with developing for VR allowed a deep knowledge with the technology that helped our team keep on track.

The project began as a client project with our MDM program, but I helped extend it into our internship to complete the beta.

Outcomes:

  • Completed beta version for VCC Automotive

  • Successfully tested with target users

  • Future plan to expand vehicle types and realismuture plan to expand vehicle types and realism
